The Metal Fabricator Red Seal Preparation Course provides the supporting theoretical knowledge and materials for those who wish to challenge the Inter-provincial "Red Seal" examination for Metal Fabricators.
Designed for experienced Metal Fabricators and apprentices wishing to complete their certification exam, this course covers the technical content of the Metal Fabricator National Occupation Analysis. Successful completion of this course does not guarantee passing the Red Seal examination.
The Red Seal Preparation Course is a 40-hour theory course designed to prepare individuals who have gone through the apprenticeship schooling, but have not yet written the Red Seal exam, or they have previously been unsuccessful in their attempt to challenge the Metal Fabricator Red Seal exam.
This course is also for individuals who did not participate in apprenticeship schooling but have worked as a Metal Fabricator for more than 5,400 hours and wish to challenge the exam to obtain their Red Seal status.
Start Date: May 19, 2026
Training Duration: This 40-hour course is delivered 2 nights per week on Tuesday and Thursday nights, for 5 weeks from 6:00pm-10:00pm.
2026 Course dates: May 19, 21, 26, 28 and June 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18 (10 classes).
Start and end dates may change if any cancellations occur due to unforeseen circumstances.
Location: Onsite in Stratford, ON and Online via Zoom (limited seats available for onsite). Please note: the Last 3 classes (June 11 16, 18) MUST be attended in-person onsite.
Fee: $550 (No HST). Course Curriculum will be accessible online (read-only) to registered participants and will be available for one year from course start date(access will end May 19, 2027).

After completing the Metal Fabricator Red Seal Preparation Course, it is each person's responsibility to book and pay for their Red Seal exam spot upon completion of these requirements.
The Red Seal exam includes a series of questions from a breakdown of the following topics and percentages:
1) Occupation Skills (Applied Drawing Interpretation, Layout &Fabricating)
2) Cutting and Gouging Processes (Oxy-Fuel, Plasma, Air Carbon Arc)
3) Welding Processes (OFW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAM, SW, RSW & RW)
4) Blueprint Reading
5) Fabrication
