Technical Training Group invests $25,000 from Apprenticeship Enhancement Fund in state-of-the-art welding training facility at Stratford Northwestern SS.

Technical Training Group (TTG), a local success story, is a partnership between local industry, business, education and The Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD). Its mandate is to provide local and affordable access to skills training and development to our local industries and residents.

TTG is a Training Delivery Agent (TDA) for the Welder Apprenticeship Levels 1-3 and Metal Fabrication Level 1 since its establishment in 2002. Up to 48 apprentices from across Southwestern Ontario train with TTG at Stratford Northwestern Secondary School each year. This partnership with Stratford Northwestern allows TTG to utilize their existing, well-equipped technical facilities for training when not in use by students. TTG pays a facility fee to the schools which can then be re-invested back into the facilities to help keep equipment current and to industry standards. It is a win-win situation for all the partners.

Early this year TTG received $25,000, through the Apprenticeship Enhancement Fund (AEF). The AEF provides funding to Ontario colleges and TDA’s, delivering apprenticeship training programs, to help upgrade equipment and facilities and support increased apprenticeship placements.

The AEF funding awarded to TTG was used to upgrade the welding facilities at Stratford Northwestern and allowed for new welding booths to be built, new ventilation to be installed, and additional welding machines to be purchased. This funding has helped created a state-of the art welding training facility at Stratford Northwestern which continues to benefit local high school students and welding apprentices alike.

The Technical Training Group will be doing a private tour of the welding facility upgrades at Stratford Northwestern on November 23 from 5-6pm with the TTG Board of Directors and our MAESD Representative. We would also like to invite you to join us for a tour of these renovated facilities and provide you with the opportunity to observe some of our Level 2 Welding Apprentices in training.
